NO SHAME IN ASKING

How do I care for period underwear?

Rinse in cold water immediately after use, then machine wash on a gentle cycle. Never use fabric softener – it reduces absorbency. Hang to dry.

Are your hygiene products safe for sensitive skin?
Yes – we select products formulated without harsh chemicals, artificial fragrances, or known irritants. Always check individual product labels if you have specific allergies.

How do I know which kit size is right for me?
Our kit product pages include a size guide. When in doubt, size up for period underwear – comfort is the priority.

Can I use your products if my flow is very heavy?
Absolutely. Our period underwear options include high-absorbency styles. You can also combine products (e.g. period underwear + a pad) for extra protection on heavy days.

Is it normal for discharge to change throughout my cycle?
Yes – discharge naturally varies in colour and consistency across the four phases. If you notice anything unusual (strong odour, unusual colour, or discomfort), consult your healthcare provider.

Do you have anything for period pain?
We hear you – period pain is one of the most common concerns we receive from our community. We are currently developing a dedicated period pain relief product as part of the Melanaiya Wellness range. Stay tuned, and or get in touch if you’d like to be notified when it launches

MYTH BUSTING

Let’s gently challenge some common misconceptions – with care and respect for all our community backgrounds:

  1. “You shouldn’t shower during your period.” – Showering during your period is safe and beneficial. Warm water supports hygiene and eases discomfort.
  2. “Periods are dirty or shameful.” – Your period is a natural, healthy function. In many Pacific traditions, it marks a moment of celebration and coming of age.
  3. “You need heavily scented products to stay fresh.” – Scented soaps and sprays can disrupt your natural pH balance. Gentle, fragrance-free products are the gold standard.
  4. “Period underwear isn’t hygienic.” – When properly cared for, period underwear is just as hygienic as disposables – and far kinder to the environment.
  5. “Painful periods are just normal – you have to push through.” – Period pain is real and it deserves real relief. While mild discomfort is common, you should never have to simply endure it. Coming soon: our Melanaiya Period Pain Relief solution – designed to support your comfort naturally. In the meantime, heat therapy, hydration, and gentle movement can all help.
